What Makes An Ergonomic Office Chair Truly Ergonomic?

Independent and Complete Adjustability

The best ergonomic office chairs offer complete ergonomic adjustability. This means the ability to adjust the position of the chair, including heights and angles of the seat and backrest, to suit the specific needs of the individual user. This is as opposed to many office chairs that have pre-set locking positions, or a synchro mechanism, which restrict adjustability.

This complete ergonomic adjustability is delivered by the 4-lever mechanism that we utilise in our ergonomic office chairs. This mechanism allows the user to independently adjust seat height, seat pan depth, seat pan angle and backrest angle. AOur ergonomic office chairs also have height adjustable backrests.

Sizing

It is absolutely imperative that the chair is the correct size for the user. If the seat pan is too deep, the user won't be able to get back into the backrest properly. Conversely, if the seat pan is too small, the user will feel unsupported under the thighs. Further, if the backrest is an inappropriate size, the user won't get optimal back support where they need it most.

Contoured Backrest

The backrests on the best ergonomic chairs are contoured to offer optimal spinal support where it is most needed - the lumbar spine, or lower back. The more the lower back is supported, or propped up, the easier it is for the user to maintain a neutral posture in the rest of their spine.

Moulded Seat Pan

The best office chairs pair a contoured backrest with moulded seat pan cushioning. There is no point having a great supportive backrest if the user doesn't sit back into the backrest. This is what a moulded seat pan helps to achieve. Moulded seat pan cushioning provides enhanced comfort and optimal support for the buttocks and thighs. This encourages the user to sit back into the chair properly, getting optimal support from the backrest.
